Handmade Creative Focus in the Age of Distraction Audible Audio Edition Gary Rogowski BJ Harrison Tantor Audio Books Reviews

  • If an autobiographical book about life in general interests you, then it’s fine. However if your looking for a contemplative work on woodworking, then look elsewhere.

Would like my time and money back.....
  • An intriguing look into Gary Rogowski the writer, master craftsman and human being. After nearly 40
years of knowing this man, know him better as a result of reading this book.
I gained a clearer, deeper understanding of mastery and the hard work that it takes to get there. And, oh
yeah you never quite get there. As Pablo Casals reportedly stated about why he still practiced 4 or 5 hours
per day at age 81 “Because I think I’m making progress”. I’ve been inspired to keep practicing after
    reading Handmade.

    Marc Hess, LCSW
  • Best book ever. Not on woodworking technique, but the value of trying, stretching and forgiving. Do the best you can and when you can't, calm down, evaluate and have at it again. Not just at the "bench"
  • Handmade is a blend of James Krenov, Robert Pirsig, Jack Kerouac and more. I suggest putting down all the tools-and-techniques stuff for a while and doing some reflection with Gary Rogowski. Much as Krenov did in The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking, Rogowski addresses woodworking as a major focus of his life, but also a metaphor - a vehicle to comment on larger life experiences that affect us all. I love his book and bought two more copies as gifts.
  • Gary symbolises life issues as they have a tremendous and profound impact on one's life journey. This is done through imagery during woodworking and hiking. Gary's comand of the English language is astounding as he is able to convey deep thoughts in a way that directly impacts on the reader. Anyone searching for meaning and direction in life needs to read this book. GARRY GEISSLER (Aspiring woodworker and searching for meaning and direction in life)
  • This book was enjoyable because it made me thinkabout the whys of my life. It also made me realize that wood working may never be a part of my life but thepriciple of just doinggood work is relly its own reward.
  • Gary mixes philosophy with woodworking in a wonderfully beautiful way. A great read, in the same vein as “Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance“.
  • Lot of life lessons in this book. Be cool, listen, focus, be humble, relax, did I say be humble. If you think life owes you, then this book might just be too challenging for you. Craft and art. Creating beauty in our work. Good read. Much to think about long after it's read.
