Come Hell or High Water A Broken Heart Novel Broken Heart Vampires Michele Bardsley 9780451228789 Books Reviews

  • As much as I like this series. There's been some blunders in the plot in some of them. I did like this one, but I found the female lead Phoebe irritating and extremely self-centered and disliked her "poor me" attitude. She was very impulsive when it came to her attraction to Connor at first. She's been a vampire for awhile and KNOWS when you have unprotected sex with ANYONE that it bonds you for 100 years. I understand heat of the moment and to be fair he did kinda tell her since he was "other" it wouldnt take. Sort of a white lie there buddy! Still...she should have paused and thought for a minute. lol. She constantly goes on about how she loves her 4 year old son Danny and wants what best for him. She basically uses him as a crutch for a lot of things...mainly when she doesnt wanna face things like a woman! Then she gets all melancholy when she starts to see herself as an idiot and selfish..especially when it comes to Danny then opts to leave him with his dad permanently he's better off. Pity party anyone? Now, we dont see a lick of him in the whole book. Yes, he's with his father in Florida but I kinda thought we should have seen him and gotten to know the little guy. Connor...what he does to her isn't cool. He involves her in some scary stuff. Well...honestly she would have been in it anyways because its a prophecy. Connor's kept things from her and lied a few times. I get she's pissed at him but she cant stay away. What I did like about the book was that it wasnt necessarily always set in Broken Heart...but sometimes hell or other places. Made it kinda interesting. Dont get me wrong I might complain a lot about the characters but I liked the book and Phoebe DOES pull her head out of her butt eventually. I found Connor to be sweet even if he went about things a bit wrongly. He genuinely liked and cared for Phoebe even before sleeping with her. He grew fast to love though before she did. ) I recommend.
  • I had never read a book in this series so this was a great surprise! This book was hilarious! While I don't normally enjoy books written in the first person, I thought this one was very well written and really connected with this character. She was flawed, not as great as she thought she was, and basically learning along the way. Yeah, pretty much how I feel! This book had parts that were a little hard to understand if you haven't read the series, but those parts DO NOT detract from the story and I enjoyed the humor, romance (was it ever hot!), and story line. I am definately going to go back and buy the previous books in this series. I LOVE Michele's writing and sense of humor and look forward to more of her books!
  • The only thing I found strange in this story is its the first of Michelle Bardsley series that don't officially take place in the town of Broken Heart. While her 4 year old son Danny is off at Disney World with his human father Phoebe Allen who both vampire and demon hunter is tricked into becoming a demon's life mate by the Scottish hottie Connor. She transported to different levels of the underworld as Conner does everything he can to protect his wife in this paranormal drama in search of the other half of a ancient talisman to stave off his stepmother Lilith. it strange having Phoebe out of contact with the rest of the vampire community of Broken Heart but it doesn't take away for the joy of the story which draws one in and prevents the reader from putting it down.
  • The exploration of demons was wonderful and I loved it.
The heroine really grew as a person-- I liked how honest she was with herself. I loved the hero, too and want to meet both his parents.
  • Love it
  • Bardsley has brought another facet to the Broken Heart series. With each book, she explores the gifts given by the seven families of vampires. Always fresh and always interesting. Her world of vampires, shape shifters and the supernatural beings that populate it gives the genre a sense of reality missing in other offerings in this category of fiction.
  • I love love this series. Go ahead and read it starting at number one.
  • This series is so addicting, have read all of them. Have started next series.
